Message from Superintendent, Marcus Chambers - Plans for Graduation Ceremonies Released

365体育注册Superintendent Marcus Chambers has reached out to graduating seniors and their parents to share plans for honoring them in commencement activities this summer. In a letter sent to families this week, Mr. Chambers identified the period of July 14-18 as the time when seniors will experience a true walk-across-the-stage ceremony. He stressed that while the District is still not certain if all of a school’s seniors can be honored at one time, that ceremonies will occur. In addition, schools will be inviting students at the end of May for a individual video shoot with the Principal that will be used to create a professionally-made video for each student.

Said Chambers, “We are in unprecedented times and this calls for outside of the box thinking. Our seniors deserve to be fully recognized and honored for all that they have accomplished over the course of their 13 years of schooling. The plan we have put into place, though not a traditional graduation ceremony, will provide our seniors with a graduation where they walk across the stage and experience that proud moment of realization that… I’ve done it.”

365体育注册Chambers noted that this group of students is not only graduating at a challenging time in our history but was also born during a difficult time in our nation’s history. “The Class of 2020 was born during the time period of 9/11 and they are now graduating amidst COVID-19. This is a strong and resilient group of seniors whom I believe will confidently and boldly step into the next chapter of life whether it be college, the military or the workforce.

The plan will conform with guidelines from Governor DeSantis’ Plan for Florida’s Recovery with an emphasis on student safety. “We communicated with the Sheriff and Health Department as we developed this plan, and are confident we can hold a memorable ceremony for these deserving seniors”, said Chambers.
